Your Highest Value Skill is NOT sales

Your Highest Value Skill is NOT Sales.

Some business gurus are telling people that they need to develop their Highest Value or most valuable skills. That part is right! You need to focus on the skill that will give you the highest return on your efforts.

What they got wrong is that they are teaching that it is sales. Sales is important, but its not the first step.

Your network is. You can’t sell unless you have someone to sell to. And the level of your network will determine the level of the people who you get to sell to. Lastly I would also suggest that sales is not the most valuable thing your network could offer you either. You will find that networking to sell is the weakest kind of networking. Instead network to find more valuable things. Most of the time in life and business your highest value skills and assets are things that will give you long term returns not a short term sale or commission.

Here are 4 to think about:

1) Support and resources

Who in your network can help yu with the things you need to grow your business. This can be education and mentorship, financial support, help implementing systems or even introductions to other people. There is truth to the russian proverb which states, “It is better to have a 100 friends than 1000 rubles.”

2)Opportunities

Most of the big opportunities in my life have come through other people. Some of these opportunities have been to attend or speak at big events, become involved in excellent investment opportunities or attend high level events or meet celebrities. Recently one of my contacts in the UK invited me to have tea at Kensington Palace with the Royals and attend ASCOT. Your best opportunities in life will come through those you know.

3)Team members or business systems

At high level networking events it is not uncommon to meet people with specialized skillset who are very successful at what they do. These opportunities are fantastic occasions to find people, services or systems that you can use to strengthen your own business.

4) Customers (but not in the way you think)

Low level networkers look for single individual customers — you need to look for people to collaborate with that have large groups of your customers.)

Again sales is an important skill, but it isn’t the one that will create the most wealth or success for you. The skill you need to develop is your ability to build a higher level network.

Hope this is helpful.

Absolutely absolute! by Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

I am absolutely thrilled about life. I wish I could say that I felt that way everyday and in every way all the time. The truth of the matter is that I get frustrated, hurt and angry sometimes just like everyone else. I am human after all. But I do find that there are several things I can do that keep me more dialled in to my best self and I’d like to share a few of those things:

1)Have a mission, set goals and revisit them often

As I feel like I have a purpose I become on purpose. It’s very difficult to stay frustrated or bummed out when I have something that I am working on. An idle mind imagines and dwells with more problems. When we are busy working at something that excites us we don’t have time or energy to waste.

thAs I regularly revisit those goals I am able to reignite myself and get more on purpose. It’s hard to stay down when you are busy. In addition, by revisiting these goals often I can often see progress (even if it’s it not much) and that motivates me to do more and helps me feel good that I’ve made progress. I’ve consistently found with my students in Personal Power Mastery and confirmed it multiple times in my own life that when we make progress we are most happy.

2)Surround yourself with people who lift you higher.

You’ve heard it said that we become like those we surround ourselves with. And you’ve also heard hat tour income, relationships and habits will gravitate to the five people you spend the most time with. I believe that’s because we rise to the expectations of our peers and we would do more for others than we often are willing to do for ourselves. A great example of this are most mothers I know. They serve everyone around them and are often the last ones to get taken care of. They do more for others than they will do for themselves.

Surround yourself with amazing people and you will rise to an amazing life.

3) Decide what you will tolerate and raise your standards

You get absolutely what you decide your standards are. This not only applies to your finances, relationships, organization, cleanliness and so forth. Yes these are all standards, but this also applies to your thinking as well. You set the standards of what you will allow for your thinking. You can control your thinking to allow certain thoughts to stay. You’ve heard it said that happiness is a choice. So is worthiness. So is confidence. So is contentment. And any other positive thought you wish to have in your life. Set your standards high and put your focus on thoughts that empower you. When you have a thought that doesn’t make you feel good don’t give it space to grow. Dismiss it and remind yourself that it is below your standards of thought.

Stay tuned for more! Until then remember that now is your time! Make it count!

You can’t attract what you criticize – BAM #4

You can’t attract what you criticize

By Douglas Vermeeren

An Awesome life is living your life by decision. You are where you want to be, doing the things that excite you, inspire you and bring out the best in you and in those around you.

This is the ideal that most people strive for, yet there are many who have a really hard time creating this as the reality in their lives. There are many reasons why they struggle creating the awesome life described above but the most common begins prevention is found in their thinking. Often this negative thinking manifests itself in the form of criticism towards other people, situations, circumstances or objects.

Criticism is a dangerous thing. Not only does it bring in negative energy it also established a fortress that keeps positive possibilities out. It becomes even more counterproductive when the individual criticizing other does so out of jealousy. In jealousy the offender is actually repelling what they what by criticizing other individuals who have achieved or are achieving what they want.

We have all been guilty of this.

As I have been guilty of criticizing others I have recognized that it never produced a positive or productive result. Criticism in my life has never produced better results or made me feel good. The more I thought about this there really has been no benefit to criticism, but it is still such an easy trap to fall into.

While in the criticizing mindset we shut off possibilities to create an awesome life as described above. The longer we stay in the mode of criticism the more it begins to affect others. What starts with a mutter or whisper in our mind soon becomes verbalized. What then is said to others gets repeated as a gossipy statement. These comments do not help to enlist the support of others you may need to accomplish your goals. Instead they let people know that you are not inspiring and fun to be around. You are a complainer.

Eventually the criticism will reach back to the person it discusses. This is when things really can turn for the worse. Have you ever had someone criticism you and felt to thank them for it? Of course not. The criticized person feels hurt and often distances themselves from the critic. It’s a great way to lose friends and create enemies.

While objects don’t have feelings I believe the same energy unfolds. You can’t attract what you criticize on any level.

My challenge to you today is to notice your criticisms and follow the two pieces of advice that your mother most likely gave you years ago:

“You get more with sugar than spice. SO be nice.”

and…

“If you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Be awesome not a critic. No one is perfect although we are all trying pretty hard to do the best we can. Seek to praise and find goodness and praise and goodness will find you. It’s that simple.

And besides the world has too many critics already. Try being original instead.
