Absolutely absolute! by Douglas Vermeeren

I am absolutely thrilled about life. I wish I could say that I felt that way everyday and in every way all the time. The truth of the matter is that I get frustrated, hurt and angry sometimes just like everyone else. I am human after all. But I do find that there are several things I can do that keep me more dialled in to my best self and I’d like to share a few of those things:

1)Have a mission, set goals and revisit them often

As I feel like I have a purpose I become on purpose. It’s very difficult to stay frustrated or bummed out when I have something that I am working on. An idle mind imagines and dwells with more problems. When we are busy working at something that excites us we don’t have time or energy to waste.

thAs I regularly revisit those goals I am able to reignite myself and get more on purpose. It’s hard to stay down when you are busy. In addition, by revisiting these goals often I can often see progress (even if it’s it not much) and that motivates me to do more and helps me feel good that I’ve made progress. I’ve consistently found with my students in Personal Power Mastery and confirmed it multiple times in my own life that when we make progress we are most happy.

2)Surround yourself with people who lift you higher.

You’ve heard it said that we become like those we surround ourselves with. And you’ve also heard hat tour income, relationships and habits will gravitate to the five people you spend the most time with. I believe that’s because we rise to the expectations of our peers and we would do more for others than we often are willing to do for ourselves. A great example of this are most mothers I know. They serve everyone around them and are often the last ones to get taken care of. They do more for others than they will do for themselves.

Surround yourself with amazing people and you will rise to an amazing life.

3) Decide what you will tolerate and raise your standards

You get absolutely what you decide your standards are. This not only applies to your finances, relationships, organization, cleanliness and so forth. Yes these are all standards, but this also applies to your thinking as well. You set the standards of what you will allow for your thinking. You can control your thinking to allow certain thoughts to stay. You’ve heard it said that happiness is a choice. So is worthiness. So is confidence. So is contentment. And any other positive thought you wish to have in your life. Set your standards high and put your focus on thoughts that empower you. When you have a thought that doesn’t make you feel good don’t give it space to grow. Dismiss it and remind yourself that it is below your standards of thought.

Stay tuned for more! Until then remember that now is your time! Make it count!

Douglas Vermeeren – There is a link between progress and Happiness

Depression, discouragement and feelings of discontent plague the world today. Most of these feelings come from a sense of comparison of our success with others. Our society has trained us to install certain activities, possessions and outcomes as necessities. This has been fairly easy for advertisers and salesmen to do because they have been able to tap into one of our important needs: The need to experience program.

As humans we are wired to problem solve and seek out challenge.  Our minds find high value in being able to solve challenges that come our way. In fact, we often seek them out. Why? Because it gives us a sense of purpose and accomplishment. It is to this sense of purpose where our feelings of happiness and fulfillment come from.

One of the most powerful medicines for someone struggling with feelings of self worth is get active. Especially if they can do something for someone else. This kind of service not only gives you activity which brings our mind into this state of inspiring challenge it also takes us outside of ourselves. Scientific research supports that the best kind of service like this is for someone who can’t possibly repay the service or for close loved ones. Add to that anonymous and you can’t help but feel amazing. A recent study I read demonstrated that regular acts of service like this are massive contributors to our own happiness.

Naturally service is only a part of creating these feelings. It is important to achieve personal progress as well. Pursuing your own goals, results, outcomes and purposes will lead you to feel greater happiness and more fulfilled. When a person states that they don’t know what makes them happy they can often trace that to not know ing their purpose as well.

My challenge to you today is to get busy, get involved, serve and find a purpose to begin to work on. As you make progress you will feel a greater sense of purpose and well being.

happyfaceAwesome Happiness

A recent study on happiness supports the same findings we arrived at with the Be Awesome Movement. (#BeAWESOMEMovement)

The study focused on the two major areas people spend money. Those two areas are on purchasing tangible objects and purchasing experiential activities or experiences.  That same study found that while purchasing objects provided an instant rise in happiness levels, those levels were fleeting and disappeared quickly. In other words after the object was purchased and now considered a potion it was taken for granted and contributed very little to happiness factors.

On the other hand purchasing experiences or experiential activities provided for longer and more sustained happiness.

In the Be Awesome Movement we have also found that creating memorable experiences creates memorable memories both of which contribute to happiness. Objects contribute more towards satisfaction than lasting happiness.

So keep this in mind next time you have a purchasing choice to make. Don’t just buy stuff. Spend your money on things which you can experience like a trip, or some tickets to an event or something that you can experience. in the end you will be happier that you did.

Had an awesome time on CityTV this morning talking about The Gratitude Experiment with Tara Slone. We talked about how the movie the Gratitude Experiment came to be, common errors that people make when practicing gratitude, how to find gratitude “in” rather than “For.” and the difference that practice can make for you… Gratitude is the Key to creating an awesome life! I will post the video as soon as I get it.
