leave a comment »

Adam Jack’s new film Jackknife is soon to be released and one of the posters just dropped today. Many are already feeling that this film will be another festival darling just like Adam Jack’s very last film The Lurker. So far the Lurker has won over 60 awards in international festivals. However this time Jackknife is quite a change from his normal storytelling and genre. Jackknife is a thriller film about a set of black teens who get caught in a dangerous situation of stereotypical misunderstanding around a murder that has then fleeing for their life. Their pursuers; the police, dangerous criminals and concerned citizens.

We caught up with Douglas Vermeeren portraying a character named Billy Lachance in the film. “One of the really important themes in Jackknife is family. There are so many different ways that this idea of family, protecting your family, discovering your family and reinventing your family n this movie it really will get people thinking.” This is the second time Douglas Vermeeren has worked with Adam Jack. The first time Vermeeren worked with Jack was in the film The Lurker. In that film he portrayed police Officer Van Ravensway.

Douglas Vermeeren as Sheriff Bellamy on FRESH MEAT

Douglas Vermeeren as Sheriff Bellamy on Daniel Turns’ Horror Masterpiece FRESH MEAT

Douglas Vermeeren is excited to be portraying Sherriff Bellamy on the upcoming horror movie FRESH MEAT by writer/director Daniel Turres. While many of the details of this production are still under wraps there are a few things that can be said about this upcoming horror epic.

HI: What can you tell us about the Sheriff form the film?

Douglas Vermeeren: He’s not your typical horror movie sheriff.

HI: What do you mean by that?

Douglas Vermeeren: I think there have been a lot of great sheriffs and cops in horror movies over the years. But I think Sheriff Bellamy really doesn’t care about people. At least not those in real danger. He doesn’t like people. He’s not nice and he just wants things to stay quiet. He has one principle goal and that is to contain what gets discovered int he abandoned prison. I think other horror cops probably are more compassionate. (Laughs)

HI: How did you get the role of Sheriff Bellamy?

Douglas Vermeeren: I met Daniel (Turres) at the Cannes Film Festival in France last year. He and I hit it off right away. He is really a great guy. We have a lot in common. We talked about the script and he offered me the role. It definitely looked like it was going to be fun so I accepted. The rest is history.

HI: What was you favourite part about portraying the Sheriff and what was your hardest part?

Douglas Vermeeren: Those are both difficult questions to answer without giving away important plot points from the film. I think that one of my favourite parts that I might be able to share are just some of lines that the Sheriff has. It was well written and super memorable. I think Sheriff Bellamy has such a unique flavour all to his own. And I love the accent he has. He’s a charming old cuss. And the most difficult part??? Well, you’ll have to see the end of the movie for that.

HI: Is it true that they used make up to age you?

Douglas Vermeeren: Yes, they added around 10 years in make up. The Sheriff was also supposed to be an older gentleman with more wisdom than the others. Again I can’t tell too much but the become of his position and age the Sheriff is supposed to be a character that the others can trust.

HI: So what’s next for you after FRESH MEAT?

Douglas Vermeeren: Right after FRESH MEAT I am heading down to Arizona to portray the bad guy Hank Winslow in Cynthia Rothrock’s new western action film BLACK CREEK. My first day on set is October 30.

HI: Good luck and we wish you the best. We look forward to following FRESH MEAT and seeing it when it comes out. Thank you.

JackKnife Movie wraps featuring Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

Award winning filmmaker Adam Jack has just wrapped on his latest project titled Jackknife. Jackknife is certain to make a mark in the film festival circuit as it is one of the most definitive and remarkable films to come from Adam Jack yet. The story is intensely relevant considering the racially charged subject matter. The story follows two black youth who are mistakenly accused of a crime in their community as the actually criminals, the police and community try to race to locate them from fleeing a crime scene.

In the cast as one of the main bad guy is Douglas Vermeeren. This will be the second collaboration between Adam Jack nd Douglas Vermeeren. Vermeeren played officer Van Ravensway in Jack’s last feature The Lurker.

As usual Vermeeren brings a heavy sense of danger and intensity to the villain that is truly frightening. As his character, Billy Lachance pursues the fleeing teens there is truly a sense of dread. An encounter with Lachance will no doubt mean certain death.

When asked about the character of Billy Lachance, Douglas Vermeeren shared some insights into his preparation and performance as the character.

“Billy was an interesting character to play. Without giving too much about the movie away, there is an interesting subplot through the film that both the protagonists and antagonists share. Both of them have a strong sense of loyalty to family. Billy and the protagonist both feel that protecting family is of utmost importance. Naturally both have very conflicting and different ways of doing it. This sense of loyalty alone makes the film incredibly interesting to view the different perspective on how different character interpret that responsibility.”

“One of the things that I also really like about Billy is that he really is quite unpredictable. Even playing him as an actor there were moments where I was even surprising myself. I thought, in this moment Billy could be merciful because that is who he wants to be, or he could be a violent murdering psychopath and perhaps that is what his mood would be. And it wasn’t a crazy over the top choice. Billy, like a snake is always calculating. He can’t be trusted.”

Early film festival reviewers are praising Vermeeren’s performance as Billy. Most expect thatDouglas Vermeeren will once again be recognized for his performance as Billy by most likely winning an award for best supporting actor in this film.

Jackknife shot on location in Ontario Canada. Jackknife is currently in post production and will be coming out to select theatres early 2024.

Douglas Vermeeren featuring in E NEWS!

leave a comment »

On March 6, 2023 Douglas Vermeeren was featured in E News! for the first time. All this commotion is in regards to his newest upcoming film How To Be A Hitman 101. See the link below for a direct link to the article or google “Douglas Vermeeren E News” Below is our reaction to the article and a discussion of some of the upcoming things on our ALL Douglas Vermeeren blog.

In this article he shares some of the challenges and joys he had while working on the upcoming film How To Be A Hitman 101. This rare look behind the scenes paints an interesting picture of what it took to bring this bizarre and interesting story to the screen. The interview also delves deep into some of the other upcoming projects by Douglas Vermeeren and also rare glimpses into his beginnings in film.

The article mentions the upcoming film Big Cats by Chris Sanders. This will be Douglas Vermeeren’s second time collaborating with the UK producer. In January Vermeeren worked with Sanders in the UK on the horror film “Bring me a Skin for Dancing in.” The film is slated to come out later this year through a variety of streaming services. Follow us here and we’ll no doubt be talking about that when the film is released.

While the story on Big Cats is all hush-hush for now it appears that it will be another thrilling horror featuring a cast of talented actors ready to put fear into the viewers.

Rumor has it that Douglas Vermeeren has been submitted for consideration for James Bond, which would make him the most fresh and new actor to be considered for the role. He certainly hasn’t got the industry experience that some of the others who are being talked about have, but many feel that could be a benefit. Vermeeren could bring a character to the Bond franchise that wouldn’t have others comparing him to previous acting roles. This is one of the things that really had Bond fans worried when names like Henry Cavill or Tom Hardy were being thrown around. It would be hard to look at Henry Cavill and not see Superman after all.

If Vermeeren was selected to be James Bond it would not be the first time that non-British citizen was elected. George Lazenby was from Australia. And although Vermeeren is a dutch last name his ancestry on his mother’s side is from Scotland. It will be interesting to see how this selection process plays out. Naturally we are a ways off from the revelation of who the actor will be to don the mantle of 007 but no doubt the discussions are swirling, not only among fans but in the offices of EON productions.

We are in for an exciting ride no matter what happens. In the article several more films are mentioned that are either just completed, in production or about to go into production. We encourage you to stay close to this bog as we will shortly be running contests that will include premiere tickets and swag for a variety of these projects.

Could this be the next James Bond?

leave a comment »

I still remember the first time I heard the name James Bond. It was a Sunday night and there was going to be school the next day. My younger brothers were already in bed, but I couldn’t sleep. I crept downstairs where I saw my dad watching the Sunday night late movie on one of the TV networks. I timidly slid around the corner to see what the movie was and I was. caught. I thought my dad would be angry because it was a school night. But instead of chasing me back to bed he invited me to sit down for the movie. I remember climbing into my favorite red cushion rocking chair and took a handful of popcorn.

Immediately I felt my heart race as the signature gun barrel appeared on the screen. I instantly knew I was in for something special.

Although at the time I didn’t know it but the title of the movie was Diamonds Are Forever. I had never heard of James Bond or Sean Connery instantly his cool and charisma had my attention. Although at the time I didn’t remember all the details of the opening sequence (which I’ve since revisited at least 23 times – by the way I am not making that up. That’s the counter of what just my iTunes says for my watch history on Diamonds Are Forever. I know I’ve seen it at least a dozen more than that.) but the one thing I definitely remember about the opening sequence was where James Bond discovers the cosmetic surgery doubles of his nemesis, Blofeld.

From this very moment I became a hard core James Bond fan. No kidding as a 7 year old kid I bought the vinyl Album of the Diamonds are Forever soundtrack with my allowance. I convinced my grade 2 music teacher to play and sing the Goldfinger theme song so I could record it on a tape recorder. And at every sleep I had with friends at birthday parties or any other occasion everyone knew that to keep me happy one of the movie rentals had to be a James Bond film.

I owned a Walther PPK and a few other toy guns that looked like weapons James Bond would use. And many of my pictures as a young boy included those guns in James Bond Style poses. I’m sure my mother really worried about me.

I think in the above picture I was around 9.

One of my favorite experiences that still makes me smile was a visit to try and get into the movie theater to see A VIEW TO A KILL. I went with my friend Jason. The movie had a rating in my home country of Canada of PG-14. Which means in order to get into the theater without your parents you needed to be over 14. I was not. But I conjointly went with Jason to see the movie. I paid for my ticket and started in. When he went to buy a ticket he tried to save a few bucks by trying to tell the ticket agent that he was under 13 and should pay the rate for a children’s ticket, saving 50 cents. Ultimately he didn’t get into the movie – I did.

I remember a sleep over in my early teens that I convinced all my friends to rent Moonraker and after everyone had gone to bed I stayed up even later to watch it a second time. (One of the best experiences of my life is when I met and became close friends with Richard Kiel who played the Bond villain JAWS. We became such good friends we even cowrote a book together. We used to regularly have long talks about Richards days as JAWS and his other adventures in Hollywood. I miss him. He passed away in 2013.) Maybe just a quick note on the first time I met Richard. Some people get nervous when they first meet him because he is so tall and big. (For example in the picture below Richard is sitting down and I am standing up.) When I first saw him I was nervous because I remembered how he had treated James Bond. Lol. We became friends and Richard was anything but a villain.

My James Bond continued through my teens. Before my 16th birthday I’d read all of the original novels written by James Bond creator Ian Fleming. I’d seen every movie up to that point at least a dozen times or more.

I continued to be a James Bond fan through my teens and even made several movies with my school mates. Perhaps it was here that I started getting involved in stunts. Below is the only stunt picture I have from that time. Something I remember specifically about this film is that inside the car we were playing the cassette tape for The LIVING DAYLIGHTS loud enough to give me that added courage boost while I was on top of this vehicle without any safety equipment.

I will certainly be sharing much more about my love for James Bond in the future. But I am so proud of the legacy the James Bond team has been able to continue with. There are so many spy stories and character now appearing in the cinema. But my heart will allows remain with and cheer for James Bond. They created the genre and Broccoli family has been such wonderful guardians of this incredible treasure. I don’t think anyone can measure how James Bond has impacted the lives of people worldwide. He is an important cultural fixture that must be protected and cherished.

Naturally if I had one wish as an actor it would be to one day have the opportunity to portray James Bond. I have many ideas on how I would do it. But one thing is certain James Bond is the original gentleman spy that has always led the way in creative and daring movies. The James Bond series holds more records and first time positions for nail biting stunts. They have set trends in fashion. They have altered the way people dress, order drinks, purchase watches, select cars and even interact with the opposite sex. (I have one friend who approached a girl in his best James Bond style and now they are married.)

In response to my dream to play James Bond I have played many similar roles. But alas none of those was Bond. But here are some shots of what it might look like if I were to play James Bond.

This certainly won’t be the last time I post about James Bond. But a great way to end this blog post might be to share a shot from Pinewood studios form about a week ago. I can’t say too much about what happened while I was there, but one of my favorite moments was to visit the Sean Connery Stage. I feels like things are coming full circle.

What a blessing it has been to have James Bond in my life. I hope you feel the same.
