Douglas Vermeeren – Our best self gives us our best outcomes.

leave a comment »

Often the decisions we make day to day come either from habit (the decisions that we always make without thinking) or our of crisis or necessity (urgent pressing matters that need our attention.) As a result the outcomes that we experiences and the consequences they bring pretty much keep us where we have always been or put us in a state of stress. Very seldom are accidental decisions likely to create powerful outcomes for us.

Douglas Vermeeren PPM 31As decisions are the important transition moment of bring our thoughts into reality it is important that the important ones be made with care. We cannot randomly approach important issues and expect that they will take us to our best results.

Within each of us is a better self. We have caught glimpses of that person from time to time. We know he or she is there and quite frankly eager to get out. When we are our best self we feel great and inspired. We know that this best self has important contributions to make to our wellbeing and the world around us.  However to have that best-self come forward requires effort. Our best self doesn’t automatically appear unless we proactively decide to allow them forward.

Most often we settle to have our average self solve problems quickly because we are Impatient.  We allow our average self to maintain relationships because its quicker. We let our average self rush through our day because they are more or less efficient and its comfortable.

While this may work occasionally it rarely gives us the life we really want and deserve.

You will soon find that getting your best self to make decisions will make your life easier and more rewarding although it requires more effort at first.

The next time you are making an important decision ask yourself am I settling with the choice my average self is making or is my best self choosing the best path?

Warning: Mos tot the time the decisions your best self would make will take more time, more effort and more commitment. But as the old saying goes it’s better to do something right the first time than to have to repeat it.

Douglas Vermeeren – Proactive versus average

Most people in life are not proactive. Maybe they think its difficult or it takes too much effort. Instead they would rather go with the flow or receive what the world around them thinks they deserve. They don’t understand that by default they give up on many of their dreams and desires simply because they choose to settle. One truth that is self existent is that those who are reactive or complacent will always serve the needs of the proactive and decisive. When you choose to abstain from being active you will always serve those who are proactive.

Douglas Vermeeren PP M 30

There are no passive bystanders in the game of life. You are either engaged creating the life you want or you are watching others live the life of their dreams. Often you are one of their workers helping make their dreams happen. Each night thousands of people watch others living their dreams on TV while if they were determined they could be creating realities for themselves.

So how can you get started? The beginning is simply to make a decision that you will get involved in your life. You will make decisions and strategically take control of what you want and what you don’t want. By doing so you will experience an immediate magic. The universe is a friendly place ready to help you accomplish whatever dreams and goals you decide to pursue. The Universe will send you people, opportunities and support to get whatever it is you pursue with passion and purpose. Passive dreamers need not apply.

My challenge to you is to take a careful look at your day. Are your activities in harmony with your higher purposes? Are you using your minutes to create a lifetime of fulfillment? How does it make you feel to pursue your goals and dreams? We all operate according to our feelings and if you want to feel better get started with what really inspires and excites you.  Be sure to report back, I love to hear about your adventures….

Douglas Vermeeren – Focus on what we can Influence.

What we focus on is what we see. When it comes to creating our ideal life or even an improved life focus is the key to making things better. What we focus on we can improve. Or in the language of the Personal Power Mastery training “What you own you can change.” Your focus determines you feeling and if you chose to focus on things you cannot change all you will create is frustration.

Douglas Vermeeren PPM 29This is not a call to ignore difficult things that need to be dealt with. There is a difference awareness, being responsible and dealing with negative challenges and focus. Focus is where we direct our attention and put our mental resources.

Often  those who experience consistent negative results experience this because their constant focus is on things they have no control over. When our sense of well beings is based on situations, people or things that we have no power over we are destined to become let down. When we have expectations of outcomes that do not or cannot happen we are let down and frustrated.

Proactive, success people recognize that their focus and efforts should primarily rest on things they can change and as a result the things they cannot change do change. Even if it is just in the matte rod how they are perceived. Changing focus actually changes everything.

Think of it like trying to move a mountain. If you are standing up agains the mountain and trying to push it to move. It is something you cannot influence and no matter how much you push at the base of the mountain it will never move. Yet if you focus on what you can influence like for example hiring the construction crew to start removing rocks, in time you can even move the mountain. I believe this is in part what is meant when it is talked about having the faith to move mountains.

Douglas Vermeeren – There is a link between progress and Happiness

Depression, discouragement and feelings of discontent plague the world today. Most of these feelings come from a sense of comparison of our success with others. Our society has trained us to install certain activities, possessions and outcomes as necessities. This has been fairly easy for advertisers and salesmen to do because they have been able to tap into one of our important needs: The need to experience program.

As humans we are wired to problem solve and seek out challenge.  Our minds find high value in being able to solve challenges that come our way. In fact, we often seek them out. Why? Because it gives us a sense of purpose and accomplishment. It is to this sense of purpose where our feelings of happiness and fulfillment come from.

Douglas Vermeeren PPM 28

One of the most powerful medicines for someone struggling with feelings of self worth is get active. Especially if they can do something for someone else. This kind of service not only gives you activity which brings our mind into this state of inspiring challenge it also takes us outside of ourselves. Scientific research supports that the best kind of service like this is for someone who can’t possibly repay the service or for close loved ones. Add to that anonymous and you can’t help but feel amazing. A recent study I read demonstrated that regular acts of service like this are massive contributors to our own happiness.

Naturally service is only a part of creating these feelings. It is important to achieve personal progress as well. Pursuing your own goals, results, outcomes and purposes will lead you to feel greater happiness and more fulfilled. When a person states that they don’t know what makes them happy they can often trace that to not know ing their purpose as well.

My challenge to you today is to get busy, get involved, serve and find a purpose to begin to work on. As you make progress you will feel a greater sense of purpose and well being.

Douglas Vermeeren – Focus on What you can DO and the results will surprise you.

When we focus on what we can do we are proactive. When we focus on things we can’t do or the things we can’t change we are reactive. A reactive state or individual gives the power of choice away. It places the ability to make a situation better outside themselves. By giving this power away the individual becomes dependant on outside influences to determine their destiny.

Douglas Vermeeren ppm 27

When we focus on the things we can change none of our energy is wasted. We begin to take back our power and even the situations which we thought we had no control over will begin to change. As we start working with what we have its almost as though a magical universal power steps in to bring us what we need to get our desire met – even if those things our outside of our influence.

Recently I had an experience that illustrated this. I had a challenge to solve in my business. Much of the challenge was beyond anything I could control. I decided I would do everything in power with everything that I could within my power. A very short time later I received a phone call from someone I hadn’t talked to in months. They had an opportunity to present to me that brought solutions to several of the elements of this challenge beyond my control. It was incredible. I had not reached out to this individual or made them aware of my challenge. The Universe knew and put this person in my path with help.

Start with what you can do and the momentum and commitment of that will bring you the other pieces you need.

In addition often when we begin to confront what the elements we have control over we begin to recognize elements that we may have initially thought were out of our control that actually are in our ability to do something with. Its almost as if we can’t shine a light on these elements until we have started to work with the elements that evident and immediately before us.

In the Movie The Opus, I said “There are no such thin as problems. Everything is a puzzle and there are solutions to puzzles.” If we begin to look at problems and challenges as puzzles they become much more easy to solve.
