Hesitation is wrecking your world
Personal Power Mastery moment by Douglas Vermeeren

Douglas Vermeeren - Personal Power Mastery 123

“Don’t just jump into something, take your time to think things through, it’s okay to take your time.” These are all saying that you’ve probably heard before. I have too. But there is one place I never heard them at all.

And that place was as I was conducting my first hand research with the more than 400 of the worlds top achievers. Instead the phrases I heard among the top achievers were things like, “Let’s get it done, how soon can we start? Is this something we can implement right away? who do we need to bring in to make that work?”

Top achievers understand there is danger run letting time slip away. They understand that every moment between the decision and the implementation is lost momentum, advantage and profits.

The reason they are able to make decisions quickly and get moving so fast on projects or ideas is that they have established what they are trying to do and what they really want ahead of time. They know their values and the outcomes they are trying to create and so when opportunities appear to advance their cause they can immediately say YES.

Average people on the other hand don’t really know what they want and they don’t recognize it when it appears. They have too think more carefully to sort through opportunities when they appear. As a result many of those opportunities disappear before they can get involved.

Holding back is also a symptom of scarcity thinking. Not only does it keep you out of powerful opportunities it also keeps you from experiencing abundance in others areas of your life.

Hesitation is the parent of procrastination. If you develop hesitation in your life it is only a matter of time until that instant hesitation develops into full-grown procrastination.

When you establish what you really want it is important to make your decisions quickly. And as we teach in personal Power Mastery decision does not exist unless there is an action attached to it. So any time you make a decision you must follow it immediately with an action.

Hesitation is also closely linked to regret. I was recently at a large family gathering all my aunts, uncles, cousins, distant cousins and so forth were there. I have a few relatives that are in the poverty pattern. Most of this can be traced back to hesitation, procrastination and fear. (by the way did we mention the root cause hesitation is fear? More on that another time.)

Any ways maybe your family is like mine. After all the hugs, kisses and hellos everyone starts talking about what is going on their life. Business often comes up. While everyone is sharing their successes I have a few relatives that you can count on to star sharing the “would-have, could-have, should-have stories.” These are the regrets that are expressed looking back at opportunities they should-have, would-have and could-have taken advantage of. (And I should again point out that this is not just my family – every family has them and it might even be you if you look carefully.) These would-have, could-have and should-have stories focus on opportunities that hesitation and procrastination and ultimately fear robbed this person of. Ultimately they long for a way to take the clock back and get another chance. Obviously that is not possible. And with this experience comes lots and lots of regret.
My challenge to you today is to become aware of what you really want in your life and then STOP HESITATING. When an opportunity appears to seize what you want take it. Don’t worry about not knowing enough, not having enough or being enough. Say yes, and then try and figure it out. You’ll find that more often than not the answers come quickly and easily. There is a Zen proverb that says “Leap and the net will appear!”

When in doubt LEAP!

I do lots of stuff wrong – Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

I do lots of stuff wrong. And so do lots of other top achievers. If you haven’t done lots wrong its because you haven’t done much of anything. One thing is for sure that its very easy to do stuff wrong. It doesn’t take any special skill or aptitude. Its one of the most easy things in the world to do. And the funniest part of mistakes is that they arrive whether you intend them to  or not. Those who make the most and the biggest mistakes are never aiming for that. Often we have the best intentions and are really wanting to help and bless others, but sometimes things go wrong. It is safe to avoid all of this. Sometimes we don’t need the attention our mistakes make. But here’s the deal folks. If you really are committed to doing big things there will be big mistakes. Don’t focus on those though. Perfection isn’t the goal – Progress is.

douglas-vermeeren-power-quote-13A hundred years from now haters don’t matter and time often forgives mistakes. A friend told me the other day something remarkable he had noticed and I had to agree with him. Anyone doing great things will never criticize another person making mistakes. They are above that and they understand how essential those challenges are to creating success.

Things will go wrong in business, relationships, finances, friendships and more! Communications may cross. Expectations may be understood. But if you are going to create you can’t stay focused on that for long. Fix what you can and move on. Try to avoid making the mistakes but recognize they will happen.

As I interviewed more than 400 of the worlds top achievers I quickly saw that all of these people had made mistakes. Some of them were involved in law suits, allegations of poor judgement, some had divorces in their past, others had bankruptcies. But they didn’t focus on that.

And what was really funny (and I have experienced this too) is that as soon as success began to arrive those who had earlier criticized them asked for help or favors.

I also found it funny that right after I put out my first movie The Opus haters came out from every direction.I was sitting with a friend from the recording industry shortly thereafter and he expressed that he had seen this a million times with recording artists. The minute they had a success everyone hated them. (What’s with humans anyways?) well, he told me something that has always stayed with me. No matter what anyone says now they can’t take away the fact that I made a movie. Haters can’t take away accomplishments.  Pretty profound.

So here’s the lesson – Do you best! But when the imperfections arrive don’t get stuck on them. Keep moving towards your goals!

The Speaking Business Multiplier – 3 Tips to think about developing content – Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

While you’d think that content and acquiring content would at the top of the priority list for people wanting to be considered experts in the field of speaking, coaching and training – it isn’t always. Over the last several decades I have been involved in the personal development business I’ve seen many who just don’t feel that constant preparation, improvement or education is that important. I regularly see speakers who prepare a speech only after they have an event booked and I’ve also seen others who prepared one speech a long time ago and every time (even to the same audience) bring out that same speech. This is a short cut. And although it may be the easy way it will never open up the doors for you to be considered an expert or a person with solutions of any depth.

I suppose it’s very similar to the one hit wonders of the music business. Or better yet like a  pianist with only one key to play. LAME.

Here are 3 thoughts to think about when preparing your content that will help you to position yourself as an expert, be prepared for any event you are called upon without notice (And this happens often for higher level speakers) and lastly, to become profitable as a speaker.

reading

  1. Read, research, watch, listen and learn every single day. I would even suggest multiple times a day. The flow of ideas into your mins on the subject you speak about needs to be constant. Almost to the point of overflow. As it overflows in your mind it will fill the minds of those you present to. In their minds you will be the well from which they know they can gain the answer. The only way that you can become that is if you first fill your mind. An old hindu saying says it best: An empty vessel can fill no other cup. Obviously it goes without saying that from the beginning I hope you have chosen a subject that you are excited about. If you are truly excited about this subject matter you’ll find that this quest for content isn’t a burden but an exciting opportunity. And I should mention if you aren’t cited about your subject it will be very difficult to get others excited about it. 452830868_0f1406ba87_b
  2. Record and sort it as though you were to teach it. When we learn with purpose we retain and record things in a more powerful way than if we to simply read something. I invite all of my students to record the content they are researching as though they had to teach it. As they look at how their research can help and bless the lives of their students they have all found amazing results. One of the most powerful being is that have immediately started to recognize what has been most valuable and practical in their research. They have been able to recognize where in their presentations these new findings have been able to fit. They have also noticed that their level of expertise has risen among their audiences. It really does become clear which speakers are consistently learning and which are just coasting. Naturally as you learn to teach your students will also feel who really cares.online_keyboard_news
  3. Look for ways to share what you are learning outside of your presentation. More and more I am seeing a massive shift in the personal development and speaking industry. No longer are people able to maintain a career simply as “a keynoter.” In order to thrive in this business it is necessary to expand to other platforms and areas such as coaching, mentoring, masterminds, products and an array of other platforms. One of the other necessities is a social media presence. Daily communication to your tribe or community is becoming more and more of an expectation. And the more your visibility and stature in the industry rise the more it is expected of you. Your daily content quests are a great way to find and prepare information to share. It needn’t be long but it definitely needs to be consistent.

When experience success it is a time for congratulations! Maybe even time for a celebration. But success is a time for one more important element! And that is to keep going.

douglas-vermeeren-ppm-59

Everyone experiences success from time to time. One could even say that it was luck. But when you keep going after the success and work according to strategy that when things really begin to happen in positive ways.

Interestingly enough not everything is going o work out but that’s the time to keep going even more. In fact, things that don’t always work out really successfully but are still done according to a predesigned strategy still make more success than a single win. Focus on moving closer to your goals rather than creating success.

More speaking business training too! Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

fear-of-public-speaking-imageLately I’ve had a lot of event organizers hire to me to participate in several upcoming events designed to help speakers grow their business. As many know I do a lot of speaker training and have been doing one on one coaching in this capacity for years. As I’ve done these events and met with speakers I’ve had a lot of people tell me that although they love the motivational articles and ideas that I share they would appreciate it if I’d share more tips and tools from speakers along the way. I am going to attempt to do that.

While I own the domain and brand high profit Speaker I had something fun happen the other day and it kind of stuck. One of my students that has been in my one on one coaching for speakers had a meeting with me recently. They have experienced quite a bit of success. They have some really great content and with a little guidance from me they have been able to build a very profitable 6 figure speaking company in a relatively short period of time.  In our last meeting he said, “You are the Speaking Business Multiplier.” I’d never heard that term before but I actually really thought it was cool.

As I share these speaker tips and other materials I am going to adopt that title of Speaking Business Multiplier. I like it. It’s what I want to do for the speakers that work for me. It describes my mission perfectly.

I want to clarify that’s not just about money in my mind though. It about multiplying everything that is good in your speaking business. I want o help you have more opportunities, more stages, more products sold, more students, more JV opportunities, more media, more people in you audience, more countries visited,  more recognition, more unique content, more power more of everything!!!! Where does it stop? I don’t know but by bringing my over 10 years experience I hope to make some massive differences for people.

I bought the domain the Speaking Business Multiplier so you will see that up soon and I will add tools there as it goes live.

For those unfamiliar with my work here a little about me and what I teach taken from some of the information we share about our courses. If you are a speaker, coach or training and you want to take your business to the next level I don’t see many people out there teaching about the BUSINESS of speaking. Most teach about how to overcome fear of speaking publicly or how to “Rock” the stage. (While there’s probably value in the 50+ courses claiming to offer this – I don’t really know what that means.)  After having a look around there really isn’t anyone who does what I do. If you really want to grow your speaking business we should meet!

Here’s what others are saying about me:

In his first six months as a speaker he earned more than 1.6 Million dollars

In this presentation you’ll learn:

*Why MOST SPEAKERS STAY BROKE and what you can do to position yourself for success.
*How to partner and Joint venture with some of the most influential speakers in the world today!
(In my movies The Opus, The Gratitude Experiment and The Treasure Map I had the support of the following well-know leaders. I will reveal the secrets behind why they were willing to help me:

*How to get on more stages and make big money with your programs
I bought this Ferrari as a gift for myself as a result of one event I did in Las Vegas. You can do the same with my easy to follow system. Me and my reward for speaking

*How to develop presentations and products that people are lining up to have! At one of my movie premieres we had more than 6,000 people in attendance. Most speakers have never seen that many people at an event before! Imagine that those kinds of numbers would be interested to hear what you have to say!

Why laugh at the learning curve? Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

Today I am in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I will be speaking at an event later today. As I think about some of the things that I could say that would be most useful to the participants who are coming I think about their needs. Many of them are entrepreneurs, some of them are speakers and life coaches, some have home based businesses, there will be network marketers, there will even be students and some people who are either not employed or looking at starting a business.

As I have been sitting here eating my oatmeal and thinking about what would be most valuable to them I let my mind wander past all the experiences I have had that would be valuable to them. I think of some of the people I’ve met and the lessons they have taught me. For some reason my mind stopped on a one person, I’m going to call her Susan. (Not her real name but close.)

Susan wanted to be a speaker. She didn’t have a lot of experience yet so there were a lot of rough edges. But she had a lot of desire. Every time we talked she would take lot sod notes on what she could do. She observed every other speaker she could find and I could tell she was excited and fuelled to get to that next level. Soon she had her chance to get in front of a few groups. Just like when I started the groups were small. (My first speaking event I had 3 people show up.)

I attended her first event and there was about 12. Her second one that I attended had 7. And I am told her third was about the same. Her speech was valuable but not polished.

She was frustrated not with herself but with the numbers who came. She thought that she was ready and the world should have responded. She let those experiences effect her. And rather than laugh at the learning curve she projected the lack of people at those that were helping her. They should have helped her better. They should have filled the room. They gave her false expectations and hope. She fired her mentors. Ultimately you guessed it she shifted from being a speaker to something else where she continues to take the learning curve too seriously.

You may have guessed by now that this is a pattern she had experienced before. A repeated challenge that is destined to repeat again. She had amazing potential but failed to recognize that there is a learning curve, a progress curve and that all development takes time.

douglas-vermeeren-ppm-58

frank_maguire_sc_photoFrank is another person I thought about this morning.  He knew how to laugh at the learning curve and as a result he went on to create some pretty amazing things in his life. Whenever a failure or setback or experience was less than he wanted he dug in deeper and recognized it as a temporary station. He did not let the setback or situation define him or put him off track from his dreams and desires. One such business failure he was involved in lost millions and millions of dollars every month for close to 36 months. Yet he knew the idea would work and together with his partners they hung in there. That company today is known as FedEx.

Frank Maguire became one of my personal mentors. Almost like a grandpa to me. He taught me again and again that it is important to expect the learning curve and although he didn’t use these words he implied that you should laugh at it. When you failed or things didn’t flow like they should put on a smile and laugh at your mistakes. Don’t take failure personally or too seriously. It’s gonna happen. And its never as bad as you think its going to be.

Even the best laid plans have challenges and bumps. But more important that the plan is the person behind it. Are you a leader or a limper? To you whine when things don’t flow like you expect or do you accept it and make adjusts to improve each time.

The amazing thing about learning curves that I have learned is that it is in the shape of a J. Success follows and comes in this shape. After you get past the low rolling curve at the bottom of the letter goes straight up. Had Susan recognized where she was on the curve she would have understood that there is always a period of time to pay your dues on the curve. Once that’s through success comes in a very big way. Most people are like Susan and when things don’t flow immediately and powerfully they abandon ship.

They never give themselves a chance to succeed because they never get past the inevitable learning curve.

rocky-1

Don’t make the same mistake. Get committed! Decide that you will hang in there. Go the distance. Be like Rocky and even tough things are tough you keep going. Take the punch and stay standing. You can do it. And it you hang on long enough you will always win.

th-1Howard Putnam former CEO of Southwest airlines once told me that the key to success in his life has always been to keep going when the other stops. It’s not a matter of being smarter, or better looking, or better connected or luckier. It’s mostly a matter of hanging in there especially when it gets hard.

So to conclude today. I just want to say go for it. This is your time!

Now is your time – Make it count!

Absolutely absolute! by Douglas Vermeeren

leave a comment »

I am absolutely thrilled about life. I wish I could say that I felt that way everyday and in every way all the time. The truth of the matter is that I get frustrated, hurt and angry sometimes just like everyone else. I am human after all. But I do find that there are several things I can do that keep me more dialled in to my best self and I’d like to share a few of those things:

1)Have a mission, set goals and revisit them often

As I feel like I have a purpose I become on purpose. It’s very difficult to stay frustrated or bummed out when I have something that I am working on. An idle mind imagines and dwells with more problems. When we are busy working at something that excites us we don’t have time or energy to waste.

thAs I regularly revisit those goals I am able to reignite myself and get more on purpose. It’s hard to stay down when you are busy. In addition, by revisiting these goals often I can often see progress (even if it’s it not much) and that motivates me to do more and helps me feel good that I’ve made progress. I’ve consistently found with my students in Personal Power Mastery and confirmed it multiple times in my own life that when we make progress we are most happy.

2)Surround yourself with people who lift you higher.

You’ve heard it said that we become like those we surround ourselves with. And you’ve also heard hat tour income, relationships and habits will gravitate to the five people you spend the most time with. I believe that’s because we rise to the expectations of our peers and we would do more for others than we often are willing to do for ourselves. A great example of this are most mothers I know. They serve everyone around them and are often the last ones to get taken care of. They do more for others than they will do for themselves.

Surround yourself with amazing people and you will rise to an amazing life.

sunrise

3) Decide what you will tolerate and raise your standards

You get absolutely what you decide your standards are. This not only applies to your finances, relationships, organization, cleanliness and so forth. Yes these are all standards, but this also applies to your thinking as well. You set the standards of what you will allow for your thinking. You can control your thinking to allow certain thoughts to stay. You’ve heard it said that happiness is a choice. So is worthiness. So is confidence. So is contentment. And any other positive thought you wish to have in your life. Set your standards high and put your focus on thoughts that empower you. When you have a thought that doesn’t make you feel good don’t give it space to grow. Dismiss it and remind yourself that it is below your standards of thought.

Stay tuned for more! Until then remember that now is your time! Make it count!
