Get to Work – Douglas Vermeeren

In 2006 the most misunderstood personal development movie in the world came out. That’s right I’m talking about The Secret. With the movie appeared a concept many people had never hear of before “The Law of Attraction” became the hot topic of conversations everywhere. While I am a firm believer of the law of attraction it quickly became evidently clear that most people had the wrong idea of what it was and what was required to activate the law.

One of the more memorable experiences that I had was with a friend of mine. After just learning about the Law of Attraction he told me how he was going to test it out by using it to acquire a brand new Ferrari. Long story short, after meditating, hoping and wishing for his Ferrari something happened. I’ll never forget the day he invited me for lunch to show off his Ferrari. As I sat at the table across from him he pulled out the business card for his new assistant whose last name was Ferrari. It had arrived but not in the way he expected.

It was a valuable lesson. we can’t leave what we want out of life to a wish, want, dream or regular thinking. Those things are important. But without the element of work focused on a specific outcome you have very little control over what arrives in your life.

The Law of attraction requires us to have strong feelings around what we want to attract and then do everything in our power to bring it about.

As I interviewed more than 400 of the worlds top achievers I saw this formula at work again and again. Each of these top achievers possessed a highly emotional commitment to what they wanted to achieve and then they worked harder, longer, more constantly and consistently than everyone around them to make that goal happen.

If you want to be a success you will have to do the same.

Douglas Vermeeren – Are you a slave to a proactive person?

Reactive people are always slaves to proactive people. Think about it. The proactive person is the one who starts a company and if you are reactive he is your boss. The Proactive person in a relationship knows what they want and moves towards it, while the reactive person is compliant. (And because of that often a toxic nag and complainer.) The proactive person is a leader while the reactive is the follower. And the list could go on.

Everywhere in reality those who are proactive enlist the help of the reactive. Often the proactive will say and experiences situations where they are unemployable. They have either made too much money or have too much drive to fit in as an employee. No one can pay them what they believe they could make on their own. Once a proactive person has experienced what they can create on their own they never dare return to reactive situation where they allow another person to dictate the activities of their day.

Each person has areas in their life where they are more proactive and reactive. My challenge to you today is to consider what areas of your life you could be more proactive with. In each area you choose to become more proactive and self-reliant your freedom grows.

One of the quickest ways to get awesome in your life – BAM #3

I-Am-Awesome-Close-Up-e1346147344621One of the quickest ways to get awesome in your life…
By Douglas Vermeeren

An Awesome life is living your life by decision. You are where you want to be, doing the things that excite you, inspire you and bring out the best in you and in those around you.

But this kind of life doesn’t come easy. Lots of people want it, but most people aren’t prepared to let go of the things that are in the way. Surprisingly one of the biggest obstacles to living your life on your terms is not the most obvious.

Are you ready for it? Ego. Your ego is one of the biggest things that keeps you from being awesome. Without getting into too much detail you probably already get where I am going with this. If you look at the most inspiring moments from your life you will quickly see that they were not connected to moments where you pushed yourself to the front, manipulated circumstances to get your own way or made someone else feel bad to “make yourself look better.”

Now I’m not suggesting that all definitions of ego are bad. That could lead to a massive debate about what is healthy ego and so on. I don’t want to go there. I believe you can’t be awesome without a proper level of self -esteem. What I am talking about is the level of ego that pushes others down in an attempt to lift you up. That kind of ego and awesomeness cannot co-exist.

True greatness requires that you recognize and respect the greatness in others too.

And if you look at those around you carefully those that are truly awesome never have to tell anyone about it. Goodness doesn’t need a promoter. It always gets found out on its own. (Which is kind of ironic to say considering the image I used at the beginning of this article.)

As I started thinking about, and more importantly trying to practice this principle of awesomeness, I found that I was also more calm and still. I was no longer as competitive to make my points known or demonstrate that I was someone special or smart. I stepped back and started trying o become a better listener, learner and support for others.

The result immediately I began to have more awesome (Look back at the definition above) experiences. I also found that immediately the way others treated me back came more awesome. It may sound kind of strange but as I put myself second I began to experience things in a more inspiring way. The reward was I was feeling further ahead than when I tried to push ahead. Weird isn’t it?

Anyways, that’s my challenge to you if you want more awesome in your life. Put your self interests and selfish ideas second, slow down that ego and let others go first. It’s that simple.
